My plan to bring awareness to mental health is to be that voice for the people who suffer.  The first thing that has to be done is to inform people of what mental illness is.  Next the community needs to learn the signs and symptoms and conditions that people go through when dealing with mental illness.  We have to start a dialogue with the community on the issues of mental health and how important it is to get help.

The community has to get more knowledgeable about the different mental disorders that can effect a person daily living.  This disease effects how people relate to others.  And if not treated early, the symptoms can get worse.  We have to hold the health care system accountable for getting people the treatment and services they need.  Many people know that they have a mental illness and want to get help, however the insurance companies will not pay for services.

As I mentioned before it is very important to receive treatment as early as possible.  The health care system has to make major changes.  First we need insurance companies to cover the cost of treatment.  Next we have to be able to identify problems before they become catastrophes, because something wasn't notice ahead of time.

Professionals who work with people who have mental illnesses should be culturally competent in treating different racial groups.  There is still an issue of racism and discrimination while receiving treatment from therapist.  My plan is to be as competent as I possibly can to make sure that the people I help are getting the proper treatment and services.  I also can make change by what I am doing now and that is writing a blog post to make people aware of mental health.  In addition, I can write to my local government to change legislation on mental health.
