My plan to bring awareness to mental health is to be that voice for the people who suffer.  The first thing that has to be done is to inform people of what mental illness is.  Next the community needs to learn the signs and symptoms and conditions that people go through when dealing with mental illness.  We have to start a dialogue with the community on the issues of mental health and how important it is to get help. The community has to get more knowledgeable about the different mental disorders that can effect a person daily living.  This disease effects how people relate to others.  And if not treated early, the symptoms can get worse.  We have to hold the health care system accountable for getting people the treatment and services they need.  Many people know that they have a mental illness and want to get help, however the insurance companies will not pay for services. Mental illness is a passion of mine and an interesting topic.  Before working in this type of field, you could say that I too was ill-informed on the subject.  Working with people who have mental illness gives an outsider a better understanding of their conditions.  This illness can affect the way a person thinks, feel and relate to others. My thoughts on mental illness is the system is broken.  It's an area that has not caught much attention until recent years.  People who are diagnose with mental problems are under-treated and over stigmatized.  Mental illness is not researched like other fields.  Our government should take the matter more seriously in prevention and treatment of mental health.
